Water of Life Dance Dubs introduces Maajo Soundsystem, the electronic sub-project of the Finnish-African group Maajo. This album revisits and reimagines the band’s 2022 release Water of Life (Wonderwheel Recordings), transforming it’s organic instrumentation into vibrant arrangements built on vintage drum machines and synthesizers. These stripped-down, dancefloor-ready versions go beyond a simple remix, enriched with new balafons, percussion, and vocals by Senegalese artist Ismaila San and Mauritian musician Gilbert K.San began his career in the 1970s as a percussionist and African ballet dancer before relocating to Finland in 1999, later becoming the first emigrant to receive the country’s Citizen of the Year award.
