1980s Newfoundland, Canada, was a dreary, cold, wet, borderline impoverished place to be a kid. But, through the love of all things dark and heavy, a beast was brewing. Bob Average was coming out of his parents’ house one day when he ran into Rod Wills. Rod was carrying an Onslaught record and Bob was carrying Corrosion of Conformity’s Animosity. More than a record exchange was made – Schizoid was born. With scene veterans Chris Jerrett and Danny Thomas (replaced by Don Ellis) and newcomers Phil Winters in the fold, the band borrowed their friend Dave Sweetapple’s cassette deck and proceeded to tear through their set in Rod’s parents’ basement.
